What if Elena decides not to complete the transition and become a vampire? 

She made it clear last season that she didn’t want to be a vampire. This means that someone is going to have to force her to drink human blood. The likely suspect would be Damon because it is the Damon thing to do. But it is so obvious that I don’t think that is what they will do. Because they’ll want to keep the central love triangle going it will be Stefan. He won’t want to lose her so he’ll make her drink, she’ll become a vampire, she’ll hate him and thus we’ll have another season of ‘which brother will she chose’ drama
